Listen! Can’t you hear the cries of the laborers over the wages you fraudulently held back from those who worked for you? The cries for justice of those you’ve cheated have reached the ears of the Lord of armies!
The Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words. God, the searcher of the heart, knows fully our longings, yet he also understands the desires of the Spirit, because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny.
“You are my little children, so I am writing these things to help you avoid sin. If, however, any believer does sin, we have a high-powered defense lawyer—Jesus the Anointed, the righteous—arguing on our behalf before the Father.
1 John 2:1
God is not silent. In fact, all throughout Scripture we find that He is loud, active, and advocates on our behalf. His advocacy is so loud it is like a lion's roar. By exploring three passages in Scripture today we will find that God roars for justice, He roars for our desires, and He roars for our freedom.
Our cries for justice are heard. And they aren’t just heard by a passive God, they are heard by the God of the angel army. He is the commander of the army. He deploys the angels out for battle, leading them the entire way.
If God is an advocate for justice, what part do I need to play to do the same?
If God is an advocate for my heart's desires, how does that change the way that I pray?
Reflect on your own for this question. What wrong or sin do you need to bring to Jesus and allow him to advocate for your freedom?
